Be sure to read the Joseph zuma article completely.
Be able to answer the following, aloud, in class tomorrow:
- What controversies swirl around Joseph Zuma?
- Why has the ANC seemingly accepted Zuma’s checkered past?
- What progress has South Africa made under the ANC over the past 20 years?
- What issues remain?
- What “vices” of one-party rule does the ANC risk slipping into?
- What are the consequences for Africa as a region, if South Africa should move away from open, democratic rule?

Well, as Emily pointed out, I got out of school without publishing your blog entry, and since so many of you have probably taken off for your SB jaunts, I’m not going to post much of an assignment now.
Please go ahead and read the chapter on the judicial branch. Take notes on the federal court system (district courts, appeals, original/appellate jurisdiction, etc.) and that will do it.
When we return next Monday, you’ll finish your reporting on bills in the Mock Senate. Enjoy your time off!.

First, don’t forget the reading: Chapters 29, 30, and 31 are due when you return from break. Be ready for a reading quiz that week.
Second, complete a Document Analysis on Document 91, Lenin’s What is to be done? and a Dialectical Journal on Document 91, Stalin’s The Results of the first five-year plan.
Third, you will need to obtain and watch one of the following WWI-era films. You will then need to complete the attached Movie Critique form.
All of these are available at major movie rental outlets, but call ahead for availability. Netflix and Blockbuster online also carry them. A third option, which applies to some of the older movies, is to check Hulu.com or other free (LEGAL!!) online video sites.
Your movie list is as follows: CHOOSE ONE! Your Movie Critique form, which you must bring back on Monday the 13th is HERE: movie-critique

- Paths of Glory (1957)
- The Dawn Patrol (1930)
- All Quiet on the Western Front (1930 and 1979)
- The Lost Battalion (2001)
- The African Queen (1951)
- Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

Please Read this entire post!!!
4/3/09: Media Center, 4:00-5:30. Full proctored AP Practice MC Exam.
- This is Multiple Choice only, but it will give me a good idea of what content areas need to be focused on in our remaining review sessions.
- Please be on time. Students may see their score immediately.
- Bring a pencil!!
4/17, 4/24/, 5/1: Media Center 4:00-5:30: Content and Strategies Review Sessions.
- Highly recommended!!
- Bring pencil/pen, textbook, reader, and 5 Steps to a 5 if you have purchased it.
Note: I encourage each student to pick up a personal copy of the 2008-2009 version of 5 Steps to a 5. I will be incorporating this book’s strategies into my sessions, and although I have a small selection of the books myself, a personal copy to take home, mark up, and fully utilize would be an asset to each student.
The State of Georgia provides online practice test for a variety of AP exams, including AP World history. This is provided at no cost! I have not seen these first-hand, because they are available to students only, but they are apparently modeled on last year’s official AP exam, so they are probably quite valuable.
- Students must register in advance. All details are available HERE
- I would appreciate some comments on this blog about how valuable these are. Let us know!

Government kids that have been away at the Model UN conference.
Please carefully read pages 68-81.
You will need to turn in a flowchart depicting how a bill becomes a law. Do not merely copy the one in the book, however. Creativity is expected.
